The Exploration Society - Buccaneer Sailing Camp 2020

The Exploration Society are delighted to invite children in Years 5-8 on a Watersports camp set in the Norfolk Broads National Park this May Half Term. The children will learn how to sail and canoe and explore the Broads on foot and by boat from their waterside campsite. Limited places so book today!

Travel, Food and Accomodation

 

The group will travel up to Norfolk by coach from London, a journey of around 3hrs with a break halfway, arriving at Salhouse Broad campsite in time for lunch. Any children joining from Cambridge will be picked up from Fourwentways services on route.

During our stay we will camp on the private campsite next to Salhouse Broad, making it ideal for our activity programme. The children will stay in groups of four or five in our large comfortable canvas bell tents, complete with carpets, sleeping mattresses and fairy lights. Toilets are close by and instructors will camp in the field too in case they are needed overnight. We will erect a large shelter for activities and meals in case the weather is poor.

Meals will be prepared from fresh ingredients with the children will assemble their own lunches and help cook dinner over the campfires. A buffet breakfast with hot and cold options will get everyone ready for an active day! We will also provide mid morning and mid afternoon snacks.

Showers will be available on the motor cruiser which will be moored up next to the campsite.

 

Activities

During the course of the week we will run an exciting activity programme on and around the water. By keeping the number of participants on camp low, we can ensure everyone gets plenty of opportunity to develop their skills.

Sailing

We will run sailing sessions in traditional wooden Broads boats where 5 children sail together with one of our instructors, overseen by a safety speed boat. They will all get to take the helm, set the sails and play games and races with the other boats.

Canoeing

When the wind is either too light or too strong for sailing, and as an evening activity, we will run canoeing sessions where the group will learn the basic paddle strokes and work with a partner to navigate their boat confidently around the lake and explore the local nature reserve

Target Sports

Back at camp we will set up some ranges where groups can try their hand at axe throwing, archery, catapults and building trebuchets, competing with other teams to get the highest scores of the camp.

Essential Information
Booking and Fees

The cost for this trip is £495 pp. This includes:

Return transport to Norfolk
Hire of Canoes, Sailing boats, safety boat and a Motor Cruiser
Staff instructor ratio of approx 1:5
Camping fees
Camping equipment
Food from Tuesday evening to Friday lunchtime
All applicable taxes and card fees

A 20% deposit of £99 will be charged as a deposit when booking. The remaining balance of £396 will be invoiced in Feburary 2020.
