The July-August Super Summer Science Activity Holiday Camp 2020 - Ealing

Every year the Mother Nature Science Activity Camp inspires thousands of budding scientists, during all school Holidays and even the half-term breaks at premium Partner School Venues.

Science Forces!

Every day at this 5-day camp is science expedition into the unknown and over the week your child will do 40+ science activities, exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes.
Every Day includes: 4 indoor classroom-based fun, hands-on, science sessions and 3 outdoor ‘Activity Playground Breaks’
Disclaimer: Please note the order of the Activity Week Programme is subject to change. Should you wish to confirm the order of the Activity Week Programme at your camp venue; this will not be available until 2 weeks before the start of the camps.

Day 1> Let the Science Begin!

This first action filled day launches your children into a mixture of science behind activities involving force and motion, from sprinting to wrestling. We look at friction, mass and muscles; we explore the need for all these when competing in physical competitions. Special take home science experiments and highlights include:
Knock Down Wrestler- Discover relative stability between balancing and hanging objects. Make your own “unknockdownable” toy!
Friction Sprinter- Discover Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion as our scientists use friction and forces for experiments!
Let the Games Begin- Understand the science behind throwing and challenge yourself to throw child friendly shot puts and javelins!
Muscles- Discover the types of muscles there are in our body. Make your own model of the muscles!

Day 2> Liquid Density and Resistance!

We take a close look at the effect of water and resistance on our bodies! We will be looking at the properties for water and the science behind how and why boats float. It culminates in a boat building competition! Special take home science experiments and highlights include:
What a Drag- Understand the principle of ‘air resistance’. Make and take home a parachute and a helicopter!
Strong Boats- Buoyancy – Create a boat and compete for the ‘Strongest Boat’!
Football- Discover some of the history of football as our scientists will conduct a football game!

Day 3> Energy and “Aerodynamics”!

This day concentrates on projectiles used in events such as archery and javelins. Looking at all the forces involved in these sports, the kids perform experiments to test and investigate these forces. Special Science experiments to take home and highlights include:
Energy Show-Discover the importance of energy and energy transfer. Watch some explosive experiments on heat transfer!
Archery- Investigate some of the science history of archery!
Balancing on a Pin Head- Strength and center of gravity, make a balancing toy!
Rocket 3,2,1, Blast Off- The science behind rocket propulsion; make your aerodynamic arrow!

Day 4> Brilliant Buoyancy!

A mixture of different sports is explored here with science exploring momentum in moving bodies, food facts and diving deep into buoyancy! Special take home science experiments and highlights include:
Run Marble Run- Learn about momentum & construct a marble run of your own!
Food Facts- Investigate the importance of food in relation to what foods contain the most energy!
Handball- Learn to play handball and the science behind before competing in friendly games with each other!
Dive, Dive, Dive! Learn about buoyancy and density. Make your own floating and sinking diver!

Day 5> Inspirational Design Day!

With some brand-new science investigations and experiments, including what happens to our bodies during physical activities and liquid densities, the last day draws on all the knowledge they have gained in the previous days to design their own activity and create their own racers! Special take home science experiments and highlights include:
Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot-The effect of temperature, take home a homemade thermometer!
Gravity Racers- Discover gravity further and the reasons for different amounts of gravitational pull!
Lava Lamps- Densities & fluids moving through a hand-made lava lamp!
Sport Design- Discover some of the history of sports and conduct as safe and exciting Sport Design Competition!

Science Academy

Every day at this 5-day camp is science expedition into the unknown and over the week your child will do 40+ science activities, exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes.
Every Day includes: 4 indoor classroom-based premium fun, hands-on, science sessions and 3 outdoor ‘Activity Playground Breaks’
Disclaimer: Please note the order of the Activity Week Programme is subject to change. Should you wish to confirm the order of the Activity Week Programme at your camp venue; this will not be available until 1 week before the start of the camps.

Day 1> Mama Nature!

After a science show presented by the instructor the kids will be taken through hands-on science sessions from looking at animal adaptations, slime and the importance of it in nature to finding out about the bones in our bodies! Special Science experiments to take home and highlights include:
Superhero Show- Use science to give you superhero powers and beat the bad guys!
Catch Me If You Can- Make animal puppets able to defend themselves!
Slime- But is it a solid or a liquid? Make your own and find out!
Skeleton Jigsaw- Uses of bones in our bodies, take home a jigsaw skeleton!

Day 2> Science of Sport!

Covering a range of activities looking at forces and motion! We will investigate jet propulsion using balloon powered cars and find a very exciting way of overcoming friction! Special Science experiments to take home and highlights include:
Science of Sport- Learn about different forces that take place in Sport! Experiment with speed guns and giant balloons!
Wacky Races- Build a rocket car and investigate Newton’s laws of motion.
Balloon Hovercrafts- Overcome friction, make your own hovercraft!
Egg Cars- Investigate inertia and try to save the egg from its fate!

Day 3> Blinding Light!

This electron energy-packed day consists of creating different types of circuits as well as looking at the different types of light and what it is all made up of. To help us experiment with this blinding topic the kids use really cool experiments such as diffracting glasses and magic UV pens! Special Science experiments to take home and highlights include:
Sunscreen Science- See the uses and dangers of UV light by making sun prints!
Lighting it Up- Learn about electricity and help bright sparks make circuits!
Kaleidoscope- Explore reflection & symmetry by making a kaleidoscope!
A Rainbow in My Hands- Create an indoor rainbow, find out real colors of sunlight!

Day 4> Ready for Launch!

This day will have your kids on the edge of your seats. They will learn about the theories behind rocket power and how they work including propulsion, stability and air resistance. They will also design and build their own water rocket to launch at the end of the day! Special Science experiments to take home and highlights include:
Safe Landing- Air resistance from the sky! Create home-made parachutes!
Ready for Launch- Find out that the buildup of gas can cause high pressure for launching! Create their own rocket!

Day 5> Crazy Chemistry!

This day will be very chilly! The chemistry explored will be topics ranging from seeds and their secrets to acids and bases (using safe liquids such as cabbage juice!), creating crystals which they can watch grow at home to the mysteries of Dry Ice! Special Science experiments to take home and highlights include:
Cabbage Indicator- Acids and bases, plus a take home indicator to keep on testing!
The Mystery Gas – Enjoy mysteries of our dry ice & watch fantastic experiments!
Seed Secrets- A world of plants; discover what’s inside and help them grow!
Creating Crystals- Discover geodes; make copper sulphate crystals!
