THE LORD MAYOR’S SHOW

London gets itself a new Lord Mayor (its 801st, no less) on Saturday, and marks the occasion with one of the most colourful and exuberant parades on the city’s calendar.

Kicking off at 9am, the river pageant fills the Thames with a flotilla of barges, including the royal Gloriana, and the road procession that follows at 11am sees a cast of thousands follow the new Lord Mayor from Mansion House to Westminster, travelling in everything from penny farthings to tanks. There are guided walks available in the afternoon, and a grand firework finale at 5.15pm.
